Vondel Park

You can stroll around for hours in lively student neighourhood of De Pijp. You'll find every imaginable cuisine, delightful terraces, and an infinite numer of beckoning cafés.

This former working-class neighbourhood has become a meeting pot nations. In the sixties and seventies, the rapid growth of the Heineken brewery attracted Spanish, Turkish and Moroccan workers. This catalysed a small culture and culinary landslide, as these newcomers brought cuisines flavoured with the exotic ingredients  that are still sold at and around the popular Albert Cuyp market. Following the

arrival of Surinamese immigrants after their country's in dependence in 1975, De Pijp developed further into a vibrant multicultural neighbourhood, with many authentic restaurants, traditional Amsterdam cafés, and trendy restaurants. Today, the Heineken Experience in the former Heineken brewery brings local history to life.

You can view the famous Heineken Shire horses at the Heineken Experience and you may also be lucky enough to see them trotting around the city center pulling the beer wagons.
